Did you ever see a specialist for something that seemed like a “one-off” at the time and later you realize you need the results of the test they ran or to remember what they told you? Been there! In fact, I was there last week.
In getting random lab work done, my BUN/Creatinine ratio was on the high side and out of the normal range. (I had no clue what that was, so I turned to Dr. Google, as most of us do…) It’s related to kidney function. I knew I had some issue with my kidneys years ago where they identified a mass but told me it was likely there since birth and just to monitor my blood work, but that’s about the depth of the clarity of my memory, at which point I began an epic game of Mad Libs (for those who remember this word game, I’m now showing my age). On [Insert a Date], I went to see [Insert a Doctor] who did a [Insert a Test] and told me [Insert a Result]. Yup – just like Mad Libs, but with a much less entertaining result.
So here’s this week’s tip: Next time you or a loved one sees a new doctor, add them to your app, put in when you saw them and what you saw them for. If you get paperwork or results, snap a pic or download them to KinKeeper. But even if all you do is record the doctor and date of visit, you’ll be able to retrace your steps later to find the original test to compare your current results to, which is the first question a new doctor will ask. It will only take 5 minutes – future you will thank you!
