A story from KinKeeper's Founder & CEO...
I had my first appointment with a new spine surgeon last week for chronic back and nerve pain. At the start of the telehealth appointment, he indicated we’d need to get an MRI prior to taking the next steps. I pulled up KinKeeper and was able to tell him the date and location of my last MRI (last Spring), which allowed him to retrieve the results, review the imaging with me and provide a diagnosis and treatment plan on the spot.
To aid in the process of getting this procedure covered by my insurance, he explained that whatever I could provide to indicate the treatments I’ve already undertaken that were unsuccessful would be helpful in making my case. So I opened my “Lower Back” topic in KinKeeper and rattled off 6 different doctors, physical therapists, medications and other treatments I’ve tried, and I could immediately tell they were thrilled to have so much evidence to work with. There’s no guarantee, but I just increased my odds of success significantly.
Not only did I save over $1,000 for another MRI that I didn’t need (I haven’t met my deductible yet), but I finally felt empowered to self-advocate and help make an effective case for insurance coverage.
So whether it’s an MRI, a lab test, mammogram, vaccine, or annual visit for you, your parents or your kids, simply knowing the basic what, where and when can help you avoid unnecessary costs and duplicate tests, save time and allow you to feel some sense of control over a situation that often feels anything BUT in control. Take 5 minutes (or even 30 seconds) – Future You will thank you.
